They call his name on the television and all of his teeth fall out. When he jolts awake under the familiar comforter he remembers once reading that thousands of other people have had this experience too, the dream where he brings his fingers to his mouth and finds he is suddenly holding a hard handful of himself. how common is herpes says the search bar when he starts to type. how common is thyroid cancer. The entire internet falls over itself offering him top dental plans and free one-session teeth whitening, while the back of his jaw is still rattling. How many other people are currently probing their gums for weak spots? how common is flesh-eating bacteria? How many people on the way to his dream, wondering if their bodies are falling apart, desperately searching for anyone who will tell them that they’re wrong.
